Sardes is involved in numerous projects concerned with the education of children and youth aged 0 to 23 years, focusing not only on these children's needs, but also on the parents and the organisations and institutions catering for this age group. Projects concerned with early childhood education, language development, safe schools, parenting support, didactic innovation, library work and the transition from school to work are just some examples. Depending on the goals and the target group of a project, the focus in the project work is on programme development, research, teacher training or policy support.
Supporting local policy and practice
In the past years, the Dutch government has decentralised many responsibilities in the field of education and welfare to municipal authorities and school boards. This has considerable consequences for the role of local governments and school boards, who are expected to develop policies and provisions tailored to local needs. Sardes helps them fulfil their new tasks through training programmes, research, information and consulting.
International projects and cooperation
The international expertise of Sardes employees and the experience which they have gained in their own country, appear also to be of value in international contexts. Throughout the years Sardes has built a steady international portfolio. Many of our activities are carried out in countries that want to join, or recently have joined, the European Union. A number of projects are done within the framework of the Matra Pre-Accession Programme (MPAP). These projects are aimed at development and implementation of language policy, on special education and on pre-school education. Sardes was also involved in some OECD-projects, for example: Services integration for children and youth at risk and their families, Social exclusion, and Early childhood education.
